7504 Creekbluff DriveAbout the Garden

Every home has a story, but not all have a garden. Some stories are created in myth, others are written in legend; this one has been handed down and retold primarily by the community residents. This is the story of Wilburn, better known as “Pete”.

The current owner is only the second for this property. While the home has been updated over time, the garden has been lovingly unchanged. It is now over 55 years old. The exact age is unknown, but as the story goes, it is older than the house.
Pete created the garden before the house was built. All of the sculptures you see dotted about were Pete’s. They will convey with the property. You will find two St. Francis sculptures on the property. Francis is associated with the patronage of animals and the environment.

Pete also built a pool and a meat smoker. Both remnants are still on the property. As the story goes, the pool was spring-fed, just like Barton Springs Pool at one point in time before what is now known as the Jester community. The pool was capped from obtaining water from that spring when the development started. In its current state, it can’t be utilized as a pool, but with some work and imagination, maybe it could be a koi pond?

As is believed, Pete dug the pool. He used the rock from the pool to create the stone wall that lines the front of the property.

You can find Pete’s plaque and some of his tools at the foot of the property.
His name, W.H. Peterson, is noted on the arbor at the garden’s entry.
Pete’s wife was Audrey. If Pete had one known vice it was smoking cigarettes. Audrey didn’t like it, so Pete would sneak smokes and hide them from her. Two packs of cigarettes he hid are still on the property. The current owner found them years ago. The location will be disclosed at closing to the new stewards of Pete’s Garden.
